About the Schools of the "Boro"

The Point Pleasant School, a K-12 system, enroll approximately 2900 students on two elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. A preschool handicapped program is also offered.

The district's two elementary schools, Ocean Road and Nellie F. Bennett, enroll K-5 students. The Memorial Middle School uses the team approach to serve students in grades 6-8. The departmentalized Point Pleasant High School serves students in grades 9-12.

Enrichment or Advanced Placement programs, as well as Basic Skills programs, are offered at every level. Resource Center in-class support programs and self-contained classes are utilized to enhance learning of special education students.

A Preschool Handicapped program serves 3-5 year olds who have been identified as having a handicapping condition or measurable developmental delay and/or impairment. An extended year summer program is offered for students in this program.

Approximately one percent of the students in Point Pleasant speak a language other than English at home. English as a Second Language (ESL) is offered to these students as needed.

The district employs approximately 235 certified staff and 135 non-certified staff.

The Point Pleasant School District is governed by a seven member Board of Education primarily responsible for setting policy. The superintendent and assistant superintendent oversee the direction of the school district working with school-based administrators and staff.
