![]() ![]() ![]() The primary function of any law enforcement agency is patrol. The officers out on patrol are on the front lines and they are the first responders to all calls for assistance. The Point Pleasant Police Department Uniformed Bureau consists of 27 patrol officers staffing 3 shifts led by a Commander holding the rank of Lieutenant. The Sergeants of the patrol unit work an 8-hour day with rotating shifts. The patrol officers work an 8 hour day with steady shifts. The 4 Sergeants and 13 of the patrol officers are assigned to traditional patrol duties during their tour of duty. They may be required to answer requests for police services that could include a traffic collision, lost child, alarms, first aid calls, fights, loose dogs and robberies all in one tour of duty. The Traffic Safety Unit is composed of 1 Lieutenant, 3 patrol officers and 17 Crossing Guards. They are responsible for the safe and efficient movement of all traffic and the safety of our children on the roadways of Point Pleasant. The Traffic Safety Unit has at least 1 vehicle on patrol each shift. The Domestic Violence Unit consists of 4 officers, who not only responds to domestics, but also provides counseling and guidance to the victims in addition to regular patrol duties. The Traffic Safety and Domestic Violence Units fall under the command of the Uniformed Bureau. In addition to their regular duties certain officers are trained in and may be called upon to perform dive duties with the Underwater Recovery Unit. The Uniformed Bureau has 4 patrol officers and 1 traffic officer on each tour of duty. They are equipped with 5 marked patrol units, 3 marked traffic units, 1 stealth traffic unit and 1 underwater recovery vehicle. In addition to the regular police officers the Uniformed Bureau has 3-class ll Special Police Officers that are graduates of a New Jersey State certified Police Academy.
